2024 Section Officers' Seminar

SOS took place in Irvine, CA, October 18-20, 2024. Section G1 attendees: Section Chief AJ Quillman, Section Vice Chief Daniel Gauthier, Section Adviser Elaine Baker.
National Council of Chiefs (NCOC)
- July 21-26, 2025 @ Philmont Training Center
- Inviting Section and Lodge Chiefs and Advisers. May open to all Section officers and Lodge members depending on what initial registration looks like.
- No official cost yet, but will be less than NOAC. Registration will open in the spring.
National Planning Meeting (NPM) – 2024
- Approve the next 3-year business plan. Discuss what issues/pains are relevant for lodges, come up with action plans. Figure out the core content of NCOC. Section Advisers are invited to NPM this year. If they attend, they will be invited to staff NCOC.
Upcoming Programs of Emphasis
2025 – NCOC
2026 – Operation Arrow @ National Jamboree. Staff will stay in Echo, Participants in Charlie and Delta. OA
is putting in a bid to bring back arena shows. If OA’s bid is accepted, they will need additional adult
staff.
2027 – NOAC – Narrowed down to 5 options: Indiana University, Perdue, University of Tennessee, University
of Illinois, University of Maryland. Will pick 3 by NPM, then conduct site visits. Will have a location by
May 2025.
2028 – National Service Project. NCOC approved the concept, but no further details yet.
2029 – Jamboree
2030 – NOAC
2031 – World Jamboree – Denmark
AIA
- There is no current discussion as to whether the OA will have lodges/chapters change to English names. This includes councils and camps as well. A directive could come from Scouting America in the future.
- National will not be issuing a contract template for permission from the local tribe. That is up to the tribe and council/lodge to come up with. The renewal date is also up to the tribe.
- Vigil names
o Only English Vigil names will be printed on national certificates.
o Field in LodgeMaster will remain for historical purposes, but will be grayed out.
Endowment
- Currently has $3M in cash, with another $600k in long term commitments.
OA High Adventure
- National has lots of scholarships available and they are about to make a big campaign push to advertise. Apply now to get ahead.
NLS – will be back in Houston in 2026.
Region News
- Looking for merchandising team members.
- Tracy Atherton is stepping down at the end of the year. New Gateway Region Chairman will be Ted Weiland.
2025 NPM will be January 16-19, 2026, instead of December 2025.
2025 SOS will be in Seattle, WA.
